“Boxes of Dresden” is a short documentary film about a phenomenon of numerous boxes on the streets of an alternative part of Dresden. Rather than dumping used goods in the trash, people retire their clothes and other items to boxes on the street for others to use.

This kind of behaviour encourages solidarity amongst people between those who could not afford certain material items and those who have an excess of it. In these times, when many people tend to own too much and resort to the instant thrill of shopping sprees, it is important to promote sustainability and raise awareness about the impact of fast fashion, unsustainable resources and the mentality of waste. It is time we asked ourselves: do we really need so much?
In this documentary, industrial production and capitalism itself are not addressed, although they play a main role in an unfair distribution of resources and in the pollution of the planet.

Chosen by Lift-Off Sessions and screened in January 2019.
